VECTORS: Vectors of Change in Oceans and Seas Marine Life, Impact on Economic Sectors

Type of Entry: Project
Website: http://www.marine-vectors.eu
Duration: 01/02/2011 - 01/02/2015
Description: VECTORS is a multidisciplinary large-scale integrated FP7 project which is coordinated by the Plymouth Marine Laboratory (UK). It aims at improving our understanding of how environmental and man-made factors are impacting marine ecosystems now and how they will do so in the future. In addition, it will be examined how these changes will affect the range of goods and services provided by the oceans, the ensuing socio-economic impacts and some of the measures that could be developed to reduce or adapt to these changes. The project is focused on the Ecosystem Approach in the strictest sense in which humans are perceived as an integral part of the ecosystem. In the understanding of the project, the overall aim of marine management is to deliver economic goods and services for the benefit of society while at the same time maintaining, enhancing and protecting ecological goods and services. VECTORS will address a complex array of interests such as areas of concern for marine life, sectoral interests and academic disciplines as well as the interests of stakeholders. The project will also ensure that the links and interactions between these areas of interest are explored, explained, modelled and communicated effectively to the relevant stakeholders.
