Sensitivity Mapping of the German Baltic Coast

Type of Entry: Project
Website: http://www.vps-web.de
Duration: 03/2001 - 04/2003
Description:

In case of accident at sea, actions combatting pollutants have to take place in a well coordinated manner to be most effective. The computer aided Contingency Plan for Pollution Combatting (German name: VorsorgePlan Schadstoffunfallbekämpfung) contains a lot of data to support a fast decision-making in case of emergency.

Therefore a digital map was produced showing the varying ecological sensitivity to oil spills of different areas along the German Baltic Coast. The map was integrated into the precaution plan for oil spills, thus allowing for quick and sound decision making in case of major oil spills.
